Hard Times
The American Dream is out of reach for many in this gritty portrayal of life during the Great Depression. The novel's protagonist, Jim Casy, a former preacher turned labor organizer, becomes embroiled in a strike by factory workers fighting for fair wages. As tensions rise and violence erupts, Casy's ideals are put to the test alongside those of his friends and allies.
