- Eastman Chemical Company is a leading international chemical company that produces more than 400 chemicals, fibers, and plastics.
- Eastman does not sell consumer products, but supplies billions of pounds of products for countless uses by consumers. Founded in 1920 in Kingsport, Tennessee, as a unit of Eastman Kodak, Eastman Chemical Company was spun off in 1994 and is now an independent, publicly held company.
- Eastman employs 17,500 people in more than 30 countries. The companv won the Baldrige Award in 1993.
- Northern Trust Corporation opened for business in Chicago more than a hundred years ago. Today, it employs more than 7,000 people in 61 locations in seven states, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

- Globe Metallurgical is a major producer of silicon metal and ferro-silicon products. its 475 employees report to four plants, including its head-quarters in Beverly, Ohio.
- In 1988, Globe was the first small business to win the Baldrige Award. Since then, it has earned the first-ever Shingo Prize for Manufacturing Excellence, Ford's highest award for Total Quality Excellence, and the U.S. Senate Productivity Award for Alabama.
- Globe is a flat organization run by self-directed work teams; of the 175 people working in the Ohio plant, only 14 are managers. Training is driven by customer and/or team needs, and it focuses on skills that can be put to use immediately.
